CCBC Completes Head Season at Junior Sculling Head
The Boat Club has been working hard this term preparing for the Junior Sculling Head. Three crews represented College yesterday and had a great day at Dorney Olympic Lake with the sun out and almost perfect conditions for racing. The event sees schools and clubs from across the nation race over two legs of 1800m.
Firstly, the J15 girl's quad took to the water. After an unfortunate equipment malfunction at Nationals last year, this is the first event for the girls to compete outside of the region. The crew worked together brilliantly, a clean and fierce race where they overtook opposition and pushed themselves to the finish. Out of 60 boats, they finished a strong 32nd, beating well-established crews from Royal Shrewsbury School, Monmouth Comprehensive, Haberdashers Monmouth, RGS Worcester, and King’s School Worcester. This result placed them only a few seconds behind City of Bristol, who were the fastest from our region. A brilliant place to build from as we enter the summer season and prepare for National School’s Regatta.
The J15 boy’s quad raced next. Also showing their strengths, the boys finished an impressive 24th out of 70 crews. Hot on the tails of the highly competitive crews from Windsor Boys’, and Westminster, and ahead of Claire’s Court, Shiplake College and Molesey Club, they have retained their place as the fastest in our region and the boys will be working hard to continue this trajectory for the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta and National School’s.
Finally, the J14 boy’s quad boated for their first-ever race! With lots of nerves and excitement, the crew did a great job. The boys had tough competition against far more experienced crews but raced cleanly and finished a respectable 40th. We are looking forward to seeing them continue their development into the summer season.
