Sebastian Bullock
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Sebastian Bullock, who died peacefully on Wednesday, 19 February, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Sebastian was a pillar of the Cheltenham College community since joining in 1998, and he will be remembered with deep admiration and affection. Across his many roles from Housemaster of Boyne House, teacher of Economics, Duke of Edinburgh leader, rowing enthusiast, and Director of the Cheltonian Society & Development, he made a lasting impact on generations of students, staff, and OCs.
A strong supporter of the Boat Club, Seb was instrumental in fostering a love of rowing at College. His passion for the sport was infectious, and his unwavering support for rowers, whether on the water or from the riverbank, was felt by all. He understood the lessons rowing teaches of teamwork, resilience, and dedication and championed those values in everything he did. The legacy of his enthusiasm and encouragement will continue to inspire our rowers for years to come.
Seb was a man of great humility and integrity, an adventurer in both spirit and action (he even climbed Everest), and a devoted family man. His quiet strength, unwavering optimism, and kindness defined him, even in the face of the significant health challenges he faced this past year. His positive outlook and determination will be his lasting legacy.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Katherine, Xander, Jago, and Claudie at this difficult time, as well as his wider family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held in College Chapel in due course, and we will share further details when they are confirmed.
For those who wish to send personal tributes or messages to be passed on to Sebastian’s family, please direct them via email to society@cheltenhamcollege.org or via the contact form.
Seb’s impact on Cheltenham College, and especially the Boat Club, will not be forgotten.
We will row on in his memory.
